Fairytale Legends Hansel and Gretel Slot Review

The tale of Hansel and Gretel is one of the more darker fairy tales from the Brothers Grimm. It tells the story of a Huntsman who after his wife dies leaving him to bring up two children, marries an evil second wife, who demands he kills his children. Yes, it’s not really the stuff that Disney want to make too many films about nowadays, but Grimm tales are somewhat darker than most but the good news is that it all ends happily ever after.

After the release of the first Fairytale Legends slot in the series, Little Red Riding Hood, this second slot is based on the erstwhile tale and NetEnt have done an incredible job once again in bringing this dark, but ultimately uplifting tale to life.  What you have here is an incredible 3D slot that features Parallax scrolling, outstanding sound effects, a huge number of bonus features and a base game that will keep you spinning for many a session.

The slot itself is a 5×3 reel game with a total of 10 fixed paylines. You can alter your coin size to between £0.01 and £2.00 per payline and you can wager between 1 and 10 coins per payline by increasing the Level meter on the slot. This means that you can play from as little as £0.10 per spin, right up to a maximum bet of £200 per spin.  Symbols on the reels include gem stones as the lower value symbols, while the three higher value symbols are Hansel and Gretel themselves, plus the Fairytale Legends logo, which offers a maximum base game payout of 500 coins when landed on one of the ten paylines.

Fairytale Legends Hansel and Gretel Key Features

The key features of the Hansel and Gretel slot start with their being Stacked Wild symbols on the second and fourth reels. Furthermore, whenever you land one of these Stacked Wild symbols on the reels and it covers a reel entirely, then you are awarded a free spin. As an extra bonus, you also have a group of Stacked Wilds added to the first and fifth reels for that respin. Land a number of these Stacked Wilds across the reels on that respin, together with some higher paying symbols and it is quite possible to land some of the biggest wins possible direct from the base game using this simple but productive feature.

In addition to this Wild feature, there are a total of three other base game bonuses and each of these is triggered at random during your spins. These three bonuses are the Fairy Wonder Spin, the Fairy Surprise and the Fairy Wild Spin.

During the Fairy Wonder Spin feature, a cluster of higher value Fairytale Legend symbols will appear as overlaid across the reels. The number of these symbols ranges from between a minimum of five up to a maximum of nine. Once these symbols are in place on the reels (and they are placed in a random pattern) then the reel is spun again and the aim is that these symbols on the reels will help you trigger a decent sized win.  Obviously the more of the Fairytale Legend symbols you land on the reels in advantageous positions as part of this bonus, the more chance you have of triggering a decent value win.

On a spin where you don’t win any money then the Fairy Surprise feature can trigger. When this happens the Fairy will appear in the game and will use her magic spells to start turning some of the lower value symbols on the reels into different symbols. She will continue to change symbols until her changes trigger a win for you. Again, depending on how many symbols the Fairy changes and the type of symbol she changes the lower value symbols into, this can be a lucrative bonus to trigger at times.

The final base game bonus is the Fairy Wild Spin which when triggered sees a fairy appear on the screen and when she does she will put two full stacks of Wild on any of the outer two reels (1, 2, 4 and 5). After she has done this, the reels will come to a stop and if there is a win triggered, the player will receive the cash. However, the player then also receives a free Stacked Wild Respin too, which can further increase the value of the win from this feature.

However the bonus features of the Fairytale Legends Hansel and Gretel slot don’t just end with the base game features. There are a total of three other bonuses you can trigger when you land three of the Treasure Chest bonus symbols across the first, third and fifth reels. When this happens, you will launch one of the three bonus features: Candy House, Free Spins and Coin Win.

The Candy House bonus is the most intriguing as it works of your standard bet. In this bonus game, you are given 15 items to select from and you can pick three of them. Each item comes with an attached multiplier but when you select them, the multiplier of each item is not revealed. Instead, what is revealed is the Average Value of each of the multipliers you have picked. You can then elect to take that amount multiplied by your stake as a bonus, or you can pick one of the three multipliers you picked initially to be your bonus, in the hope you pick one that offers you a higher value win compared to the average amount.

The Coin Win bonus game is very simple, the player just receives a prize of 15x their standard bet size as a cash prize and the bonus then ends. With Free Spins, you receive 10 Free Spins on the slot but there are no other additional bonuses available to you, however all the other features in the game are still in play, so you could trigger them during the free spins you have and land a decent sized win.

Fairytale Legends Hansel and Gretel is a very worthy follow up to the Little Red Riding Hood slot and it packs a huge amount of bonus features into what is already a hugely fun and enjoyable game. This is another great addition to the NetEnt range of slots and it is playable at Bet365 Vegas now.
