Hong Kong Tower Slot Review

I must admit that Hong Kong Tower is the first game that I have come across from ELK Studios that I can recall, so it was with a sense of the unknown that I loaded up their new slot for a few spins to review. The slot is available now to play at Bet365 Vegas and I would strongly advise you to head on over there to see what this slot offers as it is something quite different to many of the standard slots that you will play on this and any other slot gaming site.

First of all, the setting is the starry, neon-lit skies of Hong Kong and in particular, as the name suggests, there is one very tall and imposing tower that dominates the skyline. Well this tower provides the backdrop and structure for the 5×3 reel slot which is based on the World’s Largest Light and Laser show. It all sounds rather grand and exciting and with 99 paylines in play on each spin, but spins starting at just £0.20 with stakes up to £100.00 per spin possible, this is a slot which is affordable for all but is definitely aimed more at the fan of higher volatility games as this slot can be fiendishly difficult to get the better of at times.

There are a number of neon-lit flowers which are the lower value symbols in the base game and in addition to them thete are a number of other symbols on the reels including a Bonsai Tree, a beautiful pink Lily, a diamond and the lucky number seven. These are the higher value symbols offering payouts of up to 1,500 coins if you can hit five 7’s on a payline.  However, where this slot really comes alive isn’t so much in the base game, but in the different features that are the keys to unlocking some of the bigger wins possible on the slot. Let’s take a look at these in a bit more detail.

Hong Kong Tower Key Features

The first key feature of the slot is the Bonus symbol, which is easily recognisable as the Yin and Yang symbol, although this one is coloured Gold and Red. Land three of these symbols across the reels and you enter the Wheels of the Sky Bonus feature, land four and you enter the bonus but with one extra life on top of the three you start with. Land five Bonuses and you get two extra lives to start the bonus game with and those lives are crucial.

Once you fire up the Wheels of the Sky bonus feature, you are taken to three skyscrapers which has a bonus wheel on top of it. On each wheel are a number of cash prizes, and an arrow. You spin the wheel repeatedly and pick up cash prizes until you either hit a space you have already landed on before (in which case you lose one of your lives), or you hit the arrow button which will move you onto the next wheel in the chain. The process then continues on the next wheel of the three available, but on the second and third wheels you spin, the cash prizes available on each increase considerably in size.

The bonus round ends when you use up all of your lives, which is why having those extra one or two lives from the scatter bonuses is so important. The aim for players here is to hit the arrow symbol twice on the first two reels, with as many lives intact as possible, so they have a chance of hitting some of the much larger prizes available on the third wheel, which can be as much as 500 times your stake.  This is a volatile slot and it can be difficult to get to the second, let alone third reel at times, but with perseverance it is possible and when you do get to that third reel, you can win some massive cash prizes.

Another nice bonus feature is the Mystery Bonus which occurs in the base game when you land the Hong Kong Tower logo symbol (which like other symbols can be stacked) on the reels. When the Mystery Bonus is triggered by landing one or more of these symbols, the symbol will rotate and turn into another symbol at random. This can trigger a new win (in some cases they can be pretty big wins), but it can also spin out and not reward the player with anything.  On rare occasions, you can see the Hong Kong Tower logo turn into the Blue Bonus symbol, when this happens, you are automatically awarded the top scatter prize of 5 lives and are taken immediately to the Wheels of Sky Bonus round.

Although ELK Studios have made this a more volatile slot, the game itself works well. There is enough wins in the base game of varying sizes to keep you spinning and the Wheels of Sky Bonus feature really does ramp up the excitement very nicely indeed. This is a very impressive offering from ELK Studios and one well worth a closer look.
