Beauty and the Beast Slot Review

Beauty and the Beast is one of those stories that keeps making comebacks in various guises. There was the Disney cartoon many years ago now which, most memorably for me anyway, featured Angela Lansbury as a singing teapot. There was also a rather short-lived TV series in the late 1980s and early 1990s which starred Terminator actress Linda Hamilton as the beauty and Ron Perlman as the beast and there was another TV series based on the story released in 2012.  Now there is a brand new film musical recently released starring the Harry Potter actress Emma Watson as the beautiful Belle and Dan Stevens as the beast.

So it is perhaps unsurprising that Yggdrasil Games have chosen to make the story the feature of their latest slot, which as you would expect, is called by the same name.  What you have here is a 5×3 reel slot which is set against the backdrop of the beasts incredible palatial home. You can play from as little as £0.20 up to £100 per spin, meaning that it is affordable for all and the first thing that will strike you on the slot are its outstanding visuals and accompanying soundtrack, which are both first class.

You can play Beauty and the Beast slot across desktop and mobile devices right now at Bet365 Vegas, which is the home of all Yggdrasil and NetEnt games at Bet365. Let’s take a closer look now at some of the key features of the slot.

Beauty and the Beast Key Features

On the reels of the Beauty and the Beast slot are six gem-themed low symbols, which are coloured purple, yellow, blue, pink, green and red and which offer payouts ranging frmo five coins up to 80 coins for up to five on a payline. There are four high value symbols and all pay the same amount of 250 coins as a top prize. There are two Belle symbols, one with a tiara and one without, and there is the prince symbol and also the beast symbol, whom the unfortunate prince has been turned into by a spell.

Before you even spin the reels however you have a decision to make and that is whether to activate the Golden Bet feature. With this feature you can activate one or more bonuses. For an additional five coins on top of your standard bet, you can have the Boost feature, which means you get to start Free Spins with two features active instead of one. We’ll explain what that means shortly. For 15 extra coins, you can have the Nudge option activated which will allow you to nudge a free spins symbol into play on the reels when it lands just outside the game area, triggering free spins. Finally, you can elect to have both the Boost and Nudge options active for an additional 30 coins per spin.

Personally, we feel activating both options, although a hefty premium, does make for the better and more enjoyable game with potentially more lucrative rewards, though lower variance fans may wish to play without the Golden Bet option activated.

During the base game, you can trigger one of three random bonus games based on characters serving in the castle. These are:

  • Chef Feature – This synchronises the middle three reels to ensure that for one spin, they show exactly the same combination of reels, which in turn can land you some big wins if you can also land similar symbols on the first and fifth reels.
  • Butler Feature – On this feature, on your spin if you can improve your winning amount by nudging one of the reels up or down a space, then the Butler feature will do so. Furthermore, if you have a chance at landing a Free Spins feature using this bonus, then it will automatically trigger free spins for you.  If you manage to get the Chef and Butler feature together on the same spin, then all synched reels will move as a single reel.
  • Maid Feature – On this bonus you get between two and four additional wild symbols added to the reels.

In addition to these features, if you manage to land the Free Spins bonus by landing three or more of the Free Spin scatter symbols anywhere across the reels, you will get 10 free spins. Furthermore, if you trigger your 10 free spins with 4 or 5 scatters, you will win an additional cash prize of 1,000 coins for 4 scatters and 5,000 coins for five.

During free spins, you get to choose from one of the three modifiers used as bonus base games to be active on your free spins, that is unless you have the Golden Bet option active in which case you get to select two of the modifiers.  You can retrigger additional free spins from within the bonus game by landing three or more of the scatters in the bonus spins. In addition to landing extra spins, you can also choose an additional modifier, so it is possible to have all three of the available modifiers in play during this round.

This is a fun and enjoyable slot that offers a good level of variance allowing players to tailor the slot as to how they prefer to play. Play without the Golden Bet option for a lower variance game, with it for a more medium variance slot with fewer, but generally higher value wins.

If you like slots that you control your level of variance on, then the Beauty and the Beast slot is a perfect choice for you. Played with the Golden Bet feature off, this is a lower variance slot, but activate it and it is a more medium level game. Whether you feel the bonus attributed to the Golden Bet slot are worth it is up to you, but personally I feel the slot is a lot more exciting when the option is in use. It’s great that Yggdrasil have also brought back some old slot features such as the Nudge alongside more modern slot features and of course the obligatory free spins bonus is always popular and offers a decent jackpot of 5,000 coins if you play with the Golden Bet option active. This is another superbly presented slot from Yggdrasil and a worthy addition to any players slot playlist.
