Belgium, France, Croatia or England – Who Wins the World Cup?

After four dramatic quarterfinals, there remain just four teams left in the 2018 World Cup Finals in Russia. Tonight, Belgium take on France in the first semifinal in St.Petersburg, while tomorrow night, Croatia will face England in Moscow in the second.

England’s fabulous run to the semifinals is only the third time that the Three Lions have reached this stage of the competition and it is fair to say that it was somewhat unexpected, with England thought to be likely to bow out in the early stages of the knockout rounds. However, Gareth Southgate’s team have benefitted from a favourable draw, plus put in some solid performances to deservedly reach this stage of the tournament.

Let’s now take a look at both semifinals and predict who we think will make it through from each, as well as looking at some of the best bets for each game and as usual, the odds provided are from bet365 Sport and were correct as of 1pm on Tuesday 10th July.

Belgium Team News

Paris St Germain right sided defender Thomas Meunier will be forced to sit out this game after picking up a second yellow card against Brazil in the quarterfinal. That will require a reshuffle from Roberto Martinez with either Thomas Vermaelen or Yannick Carrasco the players most likely to slot into the team in his place. Other than that, Belgium should have a full strength squad to pick from for the game.

Probable Belgium XI (3-4-2-1) – Courtois (Gk), Alderweireld (Dc), Kompany (Dc), Vertonghen (Dc), Vermaelen (DMr), Chadli (DMl), Fellaini (Mc), Witsel (Mc), De Bruyne (AMc), Hazard (AMc), Lukaku (Ac)

England Team News

England’s only injury worry ahead of the game was Jamie Vardy who picked up a groin injury in the game with Colombia, but he was able to take a place on the bench for the Sweden game and should be fine to do likewise against Croatia. Jordan Henderson was reportedly a doubt for the game but later reports suggest that the Liverpool midfielder should be fit to play in his customary midfield role. If not then, Eric Dier will likely deputise.

Probable England XI (5-3-2 wingbacks) – Picford (Gk), Walker (Dc), Stones (Dc), Maguire (Dc), Trippier (DMr), Young (DMl), Henderson (DMc), Alli (Mc), Lingard (AMc), Sterling (Ac), Kane (Ac)
