So with that in mind, we are going to start with some of the more unusual bets available at bet365, finishing with the team we think will be the one to back if you want to try and back the winner of this tournament in May 2023.

Champions League 2022/23 Outright Betting Market Tips

Furthest Progressing Premier League Team

One of the more unusual markets in the Champions League outright section this year is a bet on which of the four Premier League teams will progress furthest into the competition.

There are four Premier League qualifiers for this tournament and they are listed below together with their odds to win this market:

  • Manchester City – 5/6
  • Liverpool – 9/4
  • Tottenham – 13/2
  • Chelsea – 7/1

It is unsurprising to see City top this list as they are the favourites to win the trophy outright (as we shall see later) but it is worth remembering that in recent seasons all three of these teams have advanced further in the competition than Manchester City at one time or another.

Indeed, in recent years, Liverpool and Chelsea have both won it, the latter defeating Manchester City in the final.

There’s added pressure on City in this competition as it is the one their owners most want to win, but it is the one that keeps eluding them the most and that has seen City knocked out in some strange games at times, none more so than losing last year to Real Madrid in the semi-final when they led by two clear goals with 89 minutes on the clock in the second leg.

Liverpool’s record in this tournament cannot be ignored either. They reached the final in 2019 and again in 2022 and generally they have outperformed City in the tournament over the years and as such, they would be my bet here, especially if they can weather the injuries to their midfield that have somewhat impacted their start to the domestic season.

Tip – Take Liverpool at 9/4 to continue their good Champions League form and be the best of the British teams.

To Win Group Bets

There are eight groups in the Champions League with four teams in each and you can place a bet on any of the 32 competing teams to win their respective group.

What we have done is outlined the eight groups below and we have given you our tip for each group winner too.

Champion’s League Group Stage Draw

Group A

  • Ajax
  • Liverpool – Group Winner Tip – 3/10
  • Napoli
  • Rangers

Group B

  • FC Porto
  • Atletico Madrid – Group Winner Tip – 5/6
  • Bayer Leverkusen
  • Club Brugge

Group C

  • Bayern Munich
  • Barcelona – Group Winner Tip – 7/4
  • Inter Milan
  • Viktoria Plzen

Group D

  • Eintracht Frankfurt
  • Tottenham Hotspurs – Group Winner Tip – 1/2
  • Sporting Lisbon
  • Marseille

Group E

  • AC Milan
  • Chelsea – Group Winner Tip – 1/3
  • Red Bull Salzburg
  • Dinamo Zagreb

Group F

  • Real Madrid – Group Winner Tip – 1/5
  • Red Bull Leipzig
  • Shakhtar Donetsk
  • Celtic

Group G

  • Manchester City – Group Winner Tip – 2/9
  • Sevilla
  • Borussia Dortmund
  • FC Copenhagen

Group H

  • Paris St Germain – Group Winner Tip – 1/3
  • Juventus
  • Benfica
  • Maccabi Haifa

While you could bet on these options as single bets, a better value option could be an eightfold accumulator, which would return at odds of 24.63/1 if those eight teams do indeed win their respective groups.

Champions League Top Goalscorer

Picking the player who will score the most goals in the Champions League is a tricky bet. Not only do you need to pick a player that regularly scores goals, you also need to factor in the strength of their opponents and how many goals they are likely to score, particularly in the group stages of the tournament.

For example, last year, Bayern Munich were eliminated at the quarterfinal stage of the tournament, but they scored so many goals that Robert Lewandowski was only pipped to the top position last season due to Karim Benzema’s huge haul of goals for Real Madrid in the knockout phase.

Lewandowski is now at Barcelona and his goals are going to be vital for them in what looks like being a tricky group with Bayern Munich, Inter Milan and Viktoria Plzen.

Other strikers to consider include Benzema and Vinicius Jr. at Real Madrid, Mo Salah and Darwin Nunez at Liverpool, Harry Kane and Hyeong-min Son at Tottenham, Sadio Mane at Bayern Munich and the trio of PSG superstars Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar.

However for me, Erling Haaland of Manchester City is the obvious pick here and not just because he has started the season so well for City in the Premier League. I feel City’s group is one of the easier ones and I can see Haaland scoring plenty of goals against the likes of Sevilla and Copenhagen, while he will also be keen to score against his former Dortmund team too.

Haaland is a solid shout, but at 3/1 is short odds, but he is certainly the man I’d back in this market.

Tip – Forget the rest, Haaland should have this wrapped up by the end of the Group Stages. Take the Man City man at 3/1.

To Reach Final And Outright Winner Tips

I’m looking at these markets together as they kind of both relate to the same thing, predicting the teams that will get to the final and then who will win that game between the two.

Of course, this isn’t an easy thing to predict as of course, where teams finish in the Group Stages and who they draw in the Round of 16, and then their route to the final, can all make a big difference to their chances.

That said, I do however feel that this market is down to five teams: Manchester City, Paris St Germain, Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.

Having gone out in the Round of 16 last year, I think Paris St Germain will be fired up for this campaign and they have so much attacking talent that overlooking them is difficult, so the French side would be my first pick for finalists at 13/5.

Joining them I am going to pick Liverpool at 11/4. The Reds have started this season slowly with injuries biting in defence and midfield but when they are at full strength, they have a very deep squad and have the pedigree in this tournament. Last time they were beaten in the final, they returned the following year to win it and I can see them going deep this time around too.

As for who wins it, If it is a Liverpool v Paris St Germain final, then I think it will be the French side that win the tournament outright and they are a 5/1 shot to do precisely that.
