Enhance Your MLS Soccer Viewing With Bet365 Live Streaming
With the success of the women’s soccer team at the recent FIFA Women’s World Cup in France, soccer in the United States arguably has as higher profile now as it has ever enjoyed. While the women are trailblazing in international football, men’s soccer is being strongly represented by the ever-improving quality on show in Major League Soccer (MLS).
The MLS is the highest standard of professional football in the United States and the 24 teams that compete do so across two conferences, Eastern and Western. Over the course of the season, the teams play 34 games in the League stage. They will play the other teams in their conference twice over the course of the season, home and away, (totalling 22 games) as well as playing the other 12 teams in the other conference once (six at home, six away).

Discover More about Major League Soccer
Founded in 1993 as part of the bid that won the United States the chance to host the 1994 World Cup, MLS has grown in size and popularity a great deal since those early days. Now the league has more spectators on average than either NHL or NBA games and its future is very rosy. Indeed, there is talk of further expansion teams, including Inter Miami, a team owned by former England and Los Angeles Galaxy superstar David Beckham, becoming one of them.
Unlike most football leagues, the MLS does not operate promotion or relegation. It’s teams are guaranteed a place in the league each year. Also the winners of each Conference are not the ‘league’ champions, instead, they are Conference Champions and they, along with several other teams that finished in the top positions in each conference, go forward to contest the MLS Playoffs. The winners of each conferences Playoffs then meet in the MLS Cup Final to become the overall Champion for the season. It is a system which echoes that used in the NFL and NBA.
Of the 24 teams in the MLS at present, 21 are based in the United States with three based in Canada.
The teams in each conference are:
- Eastern Conference – Philadelphia Union, Washington DC United, Atlanta United, Montral Impact, New York City FC, New York Red Bulls, Toronto FC, New England Revolution, Orlando City, Chicago Fire, Columbus Crew, FC Cincinnati
- Western Conference – Los Angeles FC, Los Angeles Galaxy, Seattle Sounders, Minnesota United, FC Dallas, San Jose Earthquakes, Houston Dynamo, Real Salt Lake, Portland Timbers, Sporting Kansas City, Vancouver Whitecaps, Colorado Rapids
Currently the teams are around 20 games into their season.
- Expansion Teams Confirmed
In addition, next year two more teams will join the MLS with David Beckham’s Inter Miami and Nashville SC set to join the league for the 2020 season. In addition to that, a new team based in Austin, Texas, known so far as Austin FC is slated to join the league as of the 2021 season.
In addition to this, there are a number of other cities across the United States that have expressed an interest in becoming home for a franchise including Charleston, Charlotte, Louisville, Oklahoma City, Sacramento, Las Vegas, Indianpolis, Phoenix, Raleigh, St.Louis, Tampa/St Petersburg and Detroit. A decision on who will become the 28th and 29th teams (with a 30th to follow) is set to be announced before the All-Star Game on July 31st.
Who are the top teams and players in MLS?
