The NFL Playoffs and Superbowl (January to February 2021)
We can bring in the New Year with some fantastic American Football action to enjoy as the Regular Season ends and the post-season begins with the newly revamped Playoffs. Now featuring seven (as opposed to six) teams from each conference. Just one team, the top seeds, from each conference will be handed a Bye in the first set of games.
The remaining six teams will face off against each other in seeded competition, with the three winners joining the team given a Bye in the Conference Playoff semifinals, the two winners of those games in each conference contest the Conference Championship game and the two Conference Champions go on to contest Superbowl LV on Sunday February 7 at the Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida.
With The Weeknd set to headline the famous half-time show, who will follow the Kansas City Chiefs into the history books as the new Superbowl Champions in 2021?
Champions League (Restarts February 2021)
Both of UEFA’s main club competitions the Champions League and the Europa League will restart in February 2021 and England’s hopes in the former lie with three teams, Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea all of whom qualified for the knockout phase as group winners.
Liverpool will take on Red Bull Leipzig in their Round of 16 match with the first leg in Germany on the 16th February. Chelsea face Atletico Madrid with the first leg in Spain on the 23rd February and a day later, Manchester City travel to Germany to face Borussia Monchengladbach.
Early betting on all these games and indeed every Champions League Round of 16 clash is now available with bet365 Sport. The second legs of each of these games and all the other Champions League matches takes place three weeks after the first leg has been played.
Cheltenham Gold Cup Meeting (March 2021) & Grand National Meeting (April 2021)
Without doubt one of the biggest horse racing meetings of the year is the Cheltenham Festival, which is scheduled to take place from Tuesday 16th March 2021 to Friday 19th March 2021 inclusive.
There are a number of massive races set to take place during the four days of action and there is plenty of ante-posr betting available on them with bet365 Sport. You can start with the RyanAir Chase, which takes place on Day Three of the festival but which also includes races such as the Arkle Chase, the Champions Hurdle and of course, the Cheltenham Gold Cup.
In fact, bet365 offers extensive ante-post betting on all the major races at the Cheltenham Festival this year and with bets placed before declarations are made for races, you can pick up fantastic odds on some great selections, but just remember if you back a non-runner as an ante-post bet, then your bet is declared a loser and not refunded.
Just a month after Cheltenham is the Grand National 2021, which will see Tiger Roll going for an unprecedented third win in a row in the race (after the 2020 race was cancelled). You can back the National legend at 20/1 now ante-post with bet365, as well as a number of other selections including Bristol de Mai, The Storyteller and Presenting Percy for the famous race.
The European Championships 2020 (June – July 2021)
Although now rumoured to be set to be played in one host nation, rather than across Europe as originally planned, the 60th year celebration of the 2020 European Championships football tournament will take place next summer after being moved from last year.
A total of 24 teams have qualified for the tournament which will be contested across six groups of four over the initial Group Stages. British interest in the event is high with Wales playing against Italy, Turkey and Switzerland in Group A, while England and Scotland have been drawn together and will face each other at Wembley in Group D.
Group F looks like being the Group of Death in this tournament with Hungary being drawn alongside the last two World Cup winners, France and Germany as well as the current European Championship holders, Portugal.
Bet365 Sport is offering plenty of ante-post betting on the tournament with Belgium and France joining England the new joint 11/2 favourites to win the tournament. Spain are next at 13/2, with the Netherlands 7/1 and Germany 15/2. Italy and Portugal are both 12/1 shots and after that the odds drift considerably to Croatia at 33/1. Wales are ranked as 100/1 outsiders and Scotland are 150/1 shots to lift the trophy.
Tyson Fury v Anthony Joshua (Date Unknown – Possibly Summer 2020)
For several years now, the heavyweight fight the world has wanted to see has been Tyson Fury against Anthony Joshua. Now with the two holding all versions of the World Heavyweight Championships, speculation is rife that a deal between the two camps can be struck to enable this fight to go ahead, likely some time in the summer of 2020.
A bout with all belts on the line would be hugely exciting for the public with the prospect of a unified World Champion at the end of it, but with Alexander Usyk wanting a crack at the WBO belt, that may have to be sacrificed by Joshua to allow the bout with Fury to go ahead. Unless Usyk can be persuaded to step aside and fight the winner of the bout.
Fury is now the 8/15 favourite to win the proposed bout between the two World Champions, with Joshua now rated the 11/8 second favourite after his win over Kubrat Pulev. One thing is for sure, this will probably be the biggest boxing match since the Rumble in the Jungle and one not to miss!
You can add to this list other massive sports events such as the Copa America, the Olympic Games, the culmination of the English Football League and Premier League seasons, the FA Cup Final, Golf’s four Majors, the resumption of the Tennis Grand Slam events and many more.
2021 is promising to be one hell of a year for sport!
