How Will The British Teams Perform This Week in the Europa League?

This week we will see Matchday 3 in the Europa League on Thursday night and that signals the midway point of the Group Stages of the tournament. For British teams, it has generally been a positive opening couple of weeks with perhaps only Celtic struggling, although. Tottenham were also beaten last week away to Belgian side Royal Antwerp.

Despite that, all the British teams in the tournament remain in with a chance of qualifying for the next phase of the tournament but Matchday 3 and Matchday 4’s double header of home and away games against the same opponents will likely go a long way towards deciding the ultimate fate of each of the teams in this year’s competition.

Europa League Tips

Thursday 5th November 2020

Benfica v Rangers (5.55pm)

I have to say that of all the British teams in the Europa League, Steven Gerrard’s Rangers have impressed me the most, backing up a win in Belgium against Standard Liege with another good win at home against Lech Poznan last week. Now though they face their toughest match in the group, away to Portuguese giants Benfica and I do think this step up in quality will be a real test for Rangers. Gerrard’s team have matched Benfica’s 100% start but I fear this may be where that good run comes to an end.

Tip – Take Benfica to land the win here by a 2-0 scoreline, which is an 8/1 shot with bet365.

Ludogorets Razgrad v Tottenham (5.55pm)

After losing last week to Royal Antwerp in Belgium, Spurs face another tricky road trip, this time to Bulgaria to face a Razgrad side without a win in the group as yet. Spurs have already won in Bulgaria in this competition, in the qualifying stage, so this trip won’t be unfamiliar to them. That said, it is still a tricky task especially with a side that is likely to see a number of first team players rested. Spurs can’t afford another slip up on the road here, and I do think they will avoid that.

Tip – I think Spurs will take this game very seriously and play a stronger than expected team and in doing so claim a win by a 2-0 scoreline at 13/2.

Arsenal v Molde (8.00pm)

Arsemal have made a great start in what is not a particularly difficult group for them and after two wins from two games, they take on a Molde side who have also landed two wins from their openers. That said, I would expect an Arsenal team even with a few first team players missing from the squad, to be more than talented enough to get a result against the Norwegian side, especially at home. This should be a relatively comfortable evenings work for the Gunners.

Tip – Back Arsenal to make a few changes to their team but still land a 2-0 win here at 13/2.

Leicester City v Braga (8.00pm)

Not many teams have as good a record against English opponents as Braga do over the years. They have beaten a number of top English teams in the past, including Wolves last season, and they are also in great shape heading into this game with Leicester. The Foxes were fine winners at Leeds on Monday night which should make them very confident ahead of this tie, but it will not be an easy game at all and it may go down right to the wire.

Tip – Expect a very close battle here and I think a single goal may be enough. Take Leicester City to win 1-0 at 13/2.

Celtic v Sparta Prague (8.00pm)

After losing to Milan in their opening game, Celtic earned a good point away to Lille, albeit having led 2-0, they will feel that it should have been three. They now face two vital games against a tricky Sparta Prague side and if Celtic can harvest six points from these two games against a winless Sparta, they stand a good chance in this tough group. Neil Lennon’s side is not in the best of form at the moment, but recent wins in the league and cup domestically is in contrast to their Europa League form.

Tip – I don’t think this will be straightforward for Celtic but I am backing them to land a 2-1 win here at 15/2.
