Neon Staxx Slot Review
NetEnt have been responsible for some of the most enjoyable slots of recent times. Starburst was a huge hit with fans and other games such as Fruit Shop and Disco Spins have also enjoyed big success in the casinos. It was therefore with no small degree of excitement that I headed over to Bet365 Vegas to check out one of the other top games from this developer, the somewhat unusually and cryptically entitled Neon Staxx slot.
The name becomes somewhat clearer when you load up the slot and see that it has been presented in glorious bright neon and it has a very much 1980s retro feel to the slot. The soundtrack is superb, one of the best on any slot game and on the reels you have a mixture of different symbols. You have the ubiquitous playing card low symbols as the smaller payout symbols, while the higher value symbols are a number of cleverly created animals made up in vector graphics. The slot features 40 fixed paylines on the 5×4 reels and you can wager from as little as £0.40 per spin up to a maximum of £200 per spin.
The backdrop to the slot is similar to the background you would see in 1980s classic video games such as Battlezone, only updated slightly and it is the perfect setting for the slot. You can double click the start button to play through the spins very quickly, which means more spins in a shorter amount of time, ideal for those with a tight timescale. Once you get the reels spinning you will find that the wins come along relatively frequently in the slot and that is down to the fact that Neon Staxx has a number of features all of which contribute to players finding this a somewhat friendly lower variance slot game.
Neon Staxx Slot Key Features
There are three key features in the Neon Staxx slot which makes this one of the most appealing games in terms of value and regular wins, of any modern slot and the first of these is that on every single spin in the base game, one of the higher or lower value symbols is selected at random to be the “Stacked” symbol for that spin. What happens is that on every reel, a super sized stack of these symbols is added and of course, this gives you more chance of landing a super-stacked line of symbols across the reels and this can allow you to trigger multiple winning paylines, which is the best way to achieve bigger value wins on the slot.
This feature alone contributes greatly to regular payouts in the base game but there is also another symbol which can help and that is the in game Wild symbol. This symbol, like the high and low value symbols, can be selected as the stacked symbol on the reels and when it is and you land it, especially when you land it on more than one reel in the base game, then you can land some of the better value wins available on the slot. If you can land Stacked Wilds across the reels, then the biggest base game wins become available.
The other symbol to watch out for is the Scatter symbol (a triangle) which when landed three or more times across the reel on a spin triggers the Free Spins bonus round. Three scatters triggers 10 free spins, four gives you 15 and five gives you 20 free spins. During free spins, only the higher value animal symbols, or the Wild symbol, will be selected as the stacked symbol for the duration of the bonus, which gives you a better chance at landing a bigger value win. However, you cannot retrigger the free spins bonus from within the bonus round.
Neon Staxx is a slot that you come to not really understanding what it is about, however this 80’s stylised slots is a real hidden gem and one of the best NetEnt slots you can play, comparing well with games such as Starburst. The mid-sized jackpot potential does put a few players off, but played over the longer term, Neon Staxx offers players outstanding potential for returns and the chance of some great value wins. With a superb free spins game and immaculate presentation, Neon Staxx is without doubt one of the most enjoyable slots I’ve reviewed and it is one that I will return to time and time again.
