Our Top Tips for The Return of the Bundesliga This Week
The Bundesliga is back this weekend and the likes of Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen, Red Bull Leipzig and Borussia Moenchengladbach will be amongst the 18 teams in action across the nine games taking place from Saturday through to Monday.
With all games being played behind closed doors, the atmosphere in these games may be a little different but with plenty still to play for in the league in terms of battling for the title, earning a European spot or battling to avoid relegation, there will be no less commitment from the teams in these crucial last 9 games of the season (or 10 for just a couple of teams).

Bundesliga I – Matchday 26 Preview and Tips
FC Augsburg v Vfl Wolfsburg
Both of these teams have generally been involved in games that have seen a lot of goals scored of late. Augsburg’s home games are generally high scoring. Twenty of their last 22 games have seen three goals, or more, scored. Wolfsburg have been involved in games with four or more goals in four of their last six games too. That all points to lots of chances and the likelihood of goals here on Saturday and given the relative form of both sides, I think Wolfsburg are the team to pick. Tip – Wolfsburg to win – 5/4.
Borussia Dortmund v Schalke 04
The Reiverderby, or the Rhine derby if you are based in England, sees Dortmund and Schalke lock horns once again. Schalke have enjoyed some recent success in this fixture, coming from 4-0 down to draw 4-4 a couple of years ago and earning a shocl victory in Dortmund last season. Those results will smart with title-chasing Dortmund who will be desperate to get one over their local rivals and keep the pressure on Bayern at the top. I think they will do that here. Tip – Dortmund to win – 8/15.
Fortuna Dusseldorf v Paderborn
Two sides with real worries about relegation clash in Dusseldorf this week in what could well be an intriguing match up. Paderborn are bottom of the table and some way off safety and a defeat here could well put the final nail in their coffin for the season. Dusseldorf lie 16th in the relegation playoff place but they are four points adrift of the team above them and badly need a win to close that gap. This will be tight, nervy and very close, but I just think Dusseldorf will claim the win here by the single goal. Tip – Dusseldorf to land a nervy win – 11/10.
Red Bull Leipzig v SC Freiburg
Red Bull were leaders of the Bundesliga for a lengthy period of time earlier in th season, but a run of just two wins in seven games saw them drop off the pace a bit behind Bayern and Dortmund. They face a tricky task against 8th placed Freiburg who have been in a bit of a sketchy run of form themselves ahead of the shut down. However, the quality Leipzig have in attack and also defence means that I think they will earn the win comfortably here. Tip – Red Bull to win – 3/10.
TSG Hoffenheim v Hertha Berlin
These two sides have pretty similar form heading into this game, are close to each other in the table and are generally pretty well matched. Normally home advantage can be key in these types of games, but with no fans present, that is watered down somewhat. Both teams need the points to move away from the drop zone and while I can’t see one team taking all three points, I do feel that they will earn a point each here. Tip – Draw – 13/5.
Eintracht Frankfurt v Borussia Moenchengladbach
Of these two teams, Borussia have been the most consistent team this season to deservedly earn their place in the top four. Frankfurt were close challengers last season but after selling several key men last summer, such as Haller and Jovic, they have dropped out of contention this year after struggling for consistency. The form book suggests that it will be Borussia to claim the win here, but I feel Frankfurt are starting to bounce back a little after a slow start and I feel that they may do enough to claim a point in this one. Tip – Draw – 13/5.
FC Cologne v FSV Mainz
After surprisingly being relegated a couple of years ago, Cologne bounced back into the Bundesliga at the first attempt last season and their return season has seen them safely ensconced in mid-table. Mainz are below them in the table and are struggling for form and consistency. The visitors do ship too many goals and I think that will be the key to Cologne landing another home victory in this one on Sunday. Tip – Cologne to win – 19/20.
Union Berlin v Bayern Munich
A win for Union Berlin in this game, even at home, would be a massive upset given the form of Bayern and the fact that their squad is by far the strongest of the two teams. Bayern’s erratic form of earlier in the season seems to be a distant memory now and I would expect the visitors to come away with a very comfortable win in this one. Tip – Bayern to win – 1/5.
Werder Bremen v Bayer Leverkusen
Monday night’s game sees title chasing Leverkusen face relegation threatened Bremen in what should be a relatively easy night for the visitors. Bremen’s form is the poorest in the division at the moment and Leverkusen have been in great form in recent weeks, scoring plenty of goals. Anything less than a Leverkusen win would be a big surprise. Tip – Leverkusen to win – 7/10.
