Premier League Matchday 20 Preview and Tips

Coming up this weekend is another set of Premier League games hot on the tails of the matches that were played last weekend and then on Boxing Day and the 27th. This will be the third game in the space of a week for all the teams, with another set of fixtures set to be played from the 1st to the 3rd January.

You can expect therefore managers to start to rotate players around for many of these games as they attempt to keep players fresh for the key matches that lie ahead, including one this very weekend as Liverpool begin the second half of the season with two matches against two top five rivals, first up Arsenal and then Manchester City on Thursday night.

Due to the busy Christmas period and not being in the office in between Xmas and New Year, I am having to write these tips well before the games have been played and as such, I am not going to put up any odds for the matches in question, firstly because many are not available and secondly those that are will likely change a great deal once the games preceding these have been played.

So if you want to back the predictions I have made below for each of the ten games this weekend, then head on over to bet365 Sport. Here you can place bets on all the games and if you are not yet a member, there’s a great value bet365 New Player Bonus you can sign up with which offers you up to £100 in bet credits when you start wagering with the site.

So without any further ado, let’s bring you my tips for the ten games taking place on Matchday 20 of the Premier League, the first weekend of the second half of the season.

Matchday 20 Preview and Tips

All games will be played either Saturday 29th or Sunday 30th December 2018.

  • Brighton v Everton

Everton will be keen to get back to winning ways, but Brighton are a strong side, especially at home and I think they are learning how to be a decent Premier League team. As such, I can’t see an Everton win, but a draw feels about the right result in this one.

Full Time Result Tip – Draw

Correct Score Tip – Brighton 1-1 Everton

Anytime Goalscorer Tip – Glenn Murray (Brighton)

  • Watford v Newcastle

Newcastle are something of a past master of getting a result against those mid to lower league teams on the road and I can see Benitez following a similar plan for this game. Watford do blow hot and cold and as such, I am backing Newcastle to pick up a good point here.

Full Time Result Tip – Draw

Correct Score Tip – Watford 0-0 Newcastle Utd

Anytime Goalscorer Tip – No Goalscorer

  • Tottenham v Wolves

Wolves were beaten by Spurs at Molineux a little while back but fought back from 3-0 down to finish 3-2. Spurs though at home are a tougher prospect and while Wolves certainly won’t make this easy for them, I do feel Spurs will end up with the points.

Full Time Result Tip – Tottenham to win

Correct Score Tip – Tottenham 2-1 Wolves

Anytime Goalscorer Tip – Harry Kane (Tottenham)

  • Fulham v Huddersfield

There’s no doubt that this is a relegation six-pointer and in truth, I don’t hold out much hope for either of these teams staying up. Huddersfield’s lack of goals and Fulham’s defence will be their undoing and in this game, I see Fulham’s attack doing the damage to claim a rare win.

Full Time Result Tip – Fulham to win

Correct Score Tip – Fulham 2-0 Huddersfield

Anytime Goalscorer Tip – Andre Schurrle (Fulham)

  • Leicester City v Cardiff City

I can’t see Cardiff City picking up too many points on the road this season and the King Power Stadium is always a tough place to go and get a result for any team. After a run of very tough games, I am expecting Leicester to bounce back to winning ways in this one.

Full Time Result Tip – Leicester to win

Correct Score Tip – Leicester 3-0 Cardiff City

Anytime Goalscorer Tip – James Maddison (Leicester)

  • Liverpool v Arsenal

The biggest game of the weekend comes at Anfield with Liverpool facing Arsenal in a huge match. The Reds were held at the Emirates last time out, but I think with a passionate home crowd behind them, they will be ready to get the job done against this leaky Arsenal defence.

Full Time Result Tip – Liverpool to win

Correct Score Tip – Liverpool 3-1 Arsenal

Anytime Goalscorer Tip – Sadio Mane (Liverpool)

  • Crystal Palace v Chelsea

This is a game where I can see something of a surprise result happening. Chelsea’s away form hasn’t been stellar of late and Palace is a ground where they have struggled in the past and while I can’t see them losing, I am backing Palace to be inspired and sneak a point against their London rivals.

Full Time Result Tip – Draw

Correct Score Tip – Crystal Palace 1-1 Chelsea

Anytime Goalscorer Tip – Eden Hazard (Chelsea)

  • Southampton v Manchester City

Southampton could be a tough opponent for City as they proved against Arsenal at home and also Manchester Unietd of late, but in truth City are a class above both of those teams and I would be hugely surprised if they don’t pick up the points here.

Full Time Result Tip – Man City to win

Correct Score Tip – Southampton 1-3 Manchester City

Anytime Goalscorer Tip – Raheem Sterling (Man City)

  • Burnley v West Ham

My gut feeling here is that Burnley need to go back to basics and I can see them trying to nullify an in form West Ham, but if they do that I always feel that plays into the hands of West Ham’s more creative, off-the-cuff players where one piece of magic will lead to them landing the win.

Full Time Result Tip – West Ham to win

Correct Score Tip – Burnley 0-1 West Ham

Anytime Goalscorer Tip – Marko Arnautovic (West Ham)

  • Man Utd v Bournemouth

If my predictions are right then Manchester United’s new manager will be coming into this game on the back of two wins and with a squad in much healthier spirits. As such, I think they will be the strong favourites to continue winning ways against a Bournemouth side that have been a little off the pace in recent weeks.

Full Time Result Tip – Man Utd to win

Correct Score Tip – Manchester Utd 2-0 Bournemouth

Anytime Goalscorer Tip – Paul Pogba (Man Utd)
