The Best Christmas 2020 Sports Events & Betting Tips
Thursday 24th December
NBA – Week One Fixtures (Continued)
The new NBA Season starts on the 23rd December, with the Brookly Nets facing the Golden State Warriors and the two LA Teams, the Lakers and Clippers clashing at the Staples Centre. However, the fixtures for Week 1 continue on the 24th December too. Betting on these games is not yet available, but should be available on bet365 the day of the game, if not before.
Highlights from the fixtures on Christmas Eve include:
- Philadelphia 76ers v Washington Wizards
- Orlando Magic v Miami Heat
- Cleveland Cavaliers v Charlotte Hornets
- Indiana Pacers v New York Knicks
- Boston Celtics v Milwaukee Bucks
- Toronto Raptors v New Orleans Pelicans
- Memphis Grizzlies v San Antonio Spurs
- Houston Rockets v Oklahoma City Thunder
- Chicago Bulls v Atlanta Hawks
- Minnesota Timberwolves v Detroit Pistons
- Denver Nuggets v Sacramento Kings
- Portland Trail Blazers v Utah Jazz
- Phoenix Suns v Dallas Mavericks
Friday 25th December
NFL – Minnesota Vikings @ New Orleans Saints
Week 16 of the NFL Season, the penultimate week of the regular season, gets underway on Christmas Day with the New Orleans Saints taking on the Minnesota Vikings in what is likely to be a crucial game for Sean Payton’s Saints franchise.
Following on from a very tough game with the Kansas City Chiefs at the weekend, and with Green Bay having already won their Week 15 game against the Carolina Panthers to move to 11-3, New Orleans need to win both against Kansas City and here against Minnesota to stand any chance of earning that top seed spot in the NFC.
In truth, that does look like being a very big ask, although the Vikings will be hoping the Titans can do them a favour against the Packers on Monday Night Football. That said, they should still have enough quality to get the win here, even against the hard running Dalvin Cook-led Vikings offense.
Tip – Odds are not yet available on this fixture with bet365, but when they are I would be backing the Saints to clinch a vital win.
Saturday 26th December
Horse Racing – King George VI Chase
Kempton Park’s annual Boxing Day meeting is one of the most popular events in the horse racing calendar each year and the top race of the day is the King George VI Chase, which gets underway at 3.05pm on Boxing Day.
This year’s race will see Paul Nicholl’s Clan Des Obeaux trying to earn legendary status by winning the race for a third time, following in the footsteps of legends Desert Orchid and Kauto Star. The 8-year-old is one of the favourites for the race along with another Nicholl’s trained horse Cyrname who shone on his return to racing in the Betfair Chase.
Currently Cyrname is the 2/1 favourite with bet365 in the antepost betting, with Clan Des Obeaux a very close 9/4. Lostintranslation and Monalee are 9/1 shots with Real Steel and The Storyteller both ranked at 16/1. It is 20/1 bar those selections in the race.
Tip – For me this is a straight choice between the two Paul Nicholl’s rides and while Cyrname seems to have attracted most money ahead of the race, I think Clan Des Obeaux at 9/4 is the best option here and I would expect that price to shorten by the time we reach Boxing Day.
Premier League – Matchday 15 Fixtures
There’s are six Matchday 15 games taking place on Boxing Day (with the remaining four taking place on the 27th December). The games are outlined below:
- Leicester City v Manchester United (12.30pm)
- Fulham v Southampton (3.00pm)
- Aston Villa v Crystal Palace (3.00pm)
- Arsenal v Chelsea (5.30pm)
- Manchester City v Newcastle United (8.00pm)
- Sheffield United v Everton (8.00pm)
My top picks to land wins here are Manchester United to earn the victory at Leicester with the Red Devils currently being 5/4. I’d also back Southampton to get the better of Fulham also at 5/4, while I think Chelsea are a very good bet to beat Arsenal on the road at even money. Finally, you could probably add Everton to beat Sheffield United in another awayday victory at 3/4.
Tip: You could back those selections individually but put them together in a fourfold accumulator bet and you would win £167.10 for a £10 stake.
Sunday 27th December
Premier League – Matchday 15 Fixtures (Continued)
The four remaining games in the Premier League from Matchday 15 will be played on Sunday and these fixtures are outlined below:
- Leeds United v Burnley (12.00pm)
- West Ham v Brighton (2.15pm)
- Liverpool v West Brom (4.30pm)
- Wolves v Tottenham (7.15pm)
Looking through the fixtures I’d be backing Leeds United, West Ham, Liverpool and a Tottenham win in the final game.
Tip – Again, you could back these selections singly, but back all four as a fourfold accumulator and a £10 bet would see you return £82.90 at the current odds available at bet365.
NFL – Week 16 (Continued)
After the Christmas Day fixture outlined above, plus three games on Boxing Day (Buccaneers @ Lions, the 49ers @ Cardinals and the late game between the Dolphins @ Raiders)), the majority of the Week 16 fixtures are played on Sunday, although the big game of the week, the Titans at the Packers, takes place on Monday Night.
The big games taking place on Sunday see the Indianapolis Colts host the Pittsburgh Steelers hoping for a victory which could not only give them a chance of beating the Titans to the AFC South title, but also perhaps overhauling the Steelers and Bills as second seed in the conference.
Other key games with Playoff implications are the Giants at the Ravens, the latter of whom revived their playoff hopes with a big win over the Browns recently. The Browns themselves head to the 0-13 Jets in what should be a comfortable win for the Cleveland team, while Washington face the Carolina Panthers and the Eagles take on the Cowboys in what has become a somewhat surreal battle between teams with losing records to win the NFC East.
Tip – Odds are not yet available for these games, but backing the Colts, Ravens, Browns and Washington looks like a nice little fourfold accumulator.
