The NFL Season Kicks Off in Two Weeks So Who Could Win The Superbowl?

The new NFL Season gets underway on Friday 11th September with the Superbowl Champions Kansas City Chiefs taking on one of the teams that they defeated on their way through the playoffs to that Superbowl appearance last season, the Houston Texans. What will follow will be 17 weeks of action as each team plays 16 matches in the Regular Season to decide who makes it through to the playoffs.

The four divisional champions, plus two wildcard teams with the best record behind the top teams, will progress from both the AFC and NFC, competing in the playoffs throughout early 2021 until just two teams remain, one from each conference to battle it out in the Superbowl. Before that though, there is plenty of outstanding betting to enjoy both before and during the regular season in the NFL.

Before we take a look at some betting opportunities in the United States on the NFL, it is worth noting that interest in the NFL is extremely high in the UK and there are many people who not only follow the action each week, but who also enjoy a range of different bets that are available on the games and the season as a whole. Let’s now take a look at which teams are likely to be amongst the Superbowl contenders this year from both the AFC and the NFC.

AFC Superbowl Contenders

Kansas City Chiefs – 6/1

One of the two bookies favourites to win the Superbowl, the Chiefs benefit from a relatively easy division and as such, it is hard to see them not qualifying comfortably for the playoffs and if they can secure homefield advantage at Arrowhead throughout them, then they would be a very strong pick for the AFC’s Champions this season. Defensively, the team still can improve but on offense their explosiveness and unpredictable nature means they are a nightmare for opposition to scheme against. It would be a huge surprise if the Chiefs do not at least reach the AFC Championship game in my view.

Baltimore Ravens – 6/1

Lamar Jackson was one of the most impressive performers last season for the Ravens and in the NFL as a whole, and he will be key to the Ravens chances this season. His stellar play from quarterback saw the Ravens enjoy a regular season for the ages, but they were found wanting against the Titans in the playoffs. They should have learned from that and this is a very solid all-round team that will be extremely tough to beat. It is easy to see why they are ranked as joint favourites to win the Superbowl with bet365.

Tennessee Titans – 25/1

If this seems like an outside punt, then hear me out. One team beat both the Chiefs and Ravens last season, and that was the Tennessee Titans, who beat the Chiefs in the regular season and then knocked out the top seed Ravens in the playoffs. With a young team, some very wise moves in Free Agency and in the draft, not to mention last year’s top pick in the draft available from the start of this season, as well as two very dangerous young receivers and the best running back in the NFL, if the Titans can find a pass rush to pressure the likes of Mahomes and Jackson, they could be the surprise package in the AFC. You heard it here first!

NFC Superbowl Contenders

San Francisco 49ers – 8/1

Last season’s beaten Superbowl finalists should be a real force once again in the NFC this season. Their incredible defense has been the secret of their success and I envisage that ity will be a dominant force in the NFC once again this season. The real question for the 49ers is whether Jimmy Garoppolo can improve from a quarterback that manages a game effectively to one that can win one when the onus is on him. He showed signs of that last season and if he can progress still further this year then the 49ers should be in with a real shout of another Superbowl in February.

New Orleans Saints – 11/1

The offensive weapons that the Saints possess is always going to make them one of the big favourites in the NFC. With Drew Brees at quarterback and a wealth of options to pick from including Alvin Kamara and the best wide receiver in the NFL at the moment in Michael Thomas, not to mention the speedy Emmanuel Sanders, few teams will be able to match up with the Saints on offense. Their issues in the past few years have tended to be more on the defensive side of the ball but if they can improve that here, then they stand a real chance of another Superbowl appearance in my view.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers – 14/1

For me, this is the most intriguing team in the NFL this season. With Tom Brady their new quarterback, Rob Gronkowski persuaded to come out of retirement to swap the commentary box for pads and helmet and the likes of LeSean McCoy, Ndamukong Suh Jason Pierre-Paul, the Bucs are gambling on having a season for the ages within the next couple of years. Can Brady bring some success to the win-starved west Floridian team? The odds suggest that he has a chance but given his age and Tampa’s performances in the last few seasons, that looks like being a very big ask, even for a player ranked by many as the greatest of all time.

Our Superbowl Pick – Tennessee Titans – 25/1

Mark my words, this Titans team is much more talented and balanced than those odds suggest. Their biggest weakness has been a pass rush, which is why they have been picked apart by offenses last season despite dominating time of possession stats thanks to Derrick Henry’s running. Having Jeffrey Simmonds available from day one will really help that and some smart moves in the off season will also help. The Titans are flying under the radar and they are great value at 25/1 with bet365.
