The Vault Slot Review

At first when I heard that Microgaming were set to release a new game called “The Vault” I assumed that it may well be a TV tie in with the gameshow of the same name presented by Philip Schofield.

However that assumption was incorrect as details of the slot revealed that it would be a first game for Microgaming by Snowborn Studios, a new partner that the Isle of Man-based company had agreed another development deal with.

That game has now been released across casinos as of 28th April 2020 so we decided to get a heads up on the new slot and what it has to offer for customers seeking to play it at their choice of online casino.

This rather stylish looking slot is the first game from Snowborn as part of their partnership with Microgaming and it looks like a cracker. I like the use of larger than usual controls, which are very effective on smaller screen devices, plus the look and sound of the game is superb. Bets start at just £0.20 per spin, but you can ramp that up significantly to £44.00 a spin. The jackpot is a little on the small side but can be won across more than one of the 20 pay lines (giving a theoretical maximum win of 2,000x). It is a high volatility slot though so you will need to be patient to get the most out of the game.

Theme and Presentation

The Vault slot is set inside a French museum at night and a rather impressive one given the marble pillars, beautiful ceilings and hi-tech laser alarm system they have installed. The thief, looking to land themselves some of the museum’s exhibits, is displayed on the left of the reels and the reels are transparent, allowing for a better view of the setting.

One real plus for the slot is the music that plays while you play through your spins as it does a fantastic job of ramping up the tension. The animations of the reels are excellent and the graphics on the game are also first rate. Certainly in terms of presentation, Snowborn Studios have set the bar very high for their initial Microgaming release.

On the reels there are nine standard symbols in total. They start with five lower value symbols, which are the playing card symbols Jack through to the Ace. I was a bit disappointed with their inclusion, I would have liked to maybe see some lower value museum exhibits included for these symbols, but regardless, these offer wins ranging from just 0.25x your bet up to 4x your bet for five aces across the reels on a pay line.

The four higher value symbols are markedly more interesting and these include gold bars, an emerald in a presentation case, a white diamond and a beautiful and rare pink diamond. Wins on these symbols range from 0.75x your bet up to the biggest base game win on a single pay line of 100x your bet if you can hit five of the Pink Diamond symbols on a pay line.

In addition to these symbols there are a couple of bonus symbols in play too which will be explained in more detail below.

Wild Symbol

The “W” symbol with golden decoration around the outside is the in game Wild symbol and it serves two roles in the game, Firstly, it is a substitute symbol that can replace any of the standard lower or higher value symbols outlined above to help create wins.

Given that the Wild also appears across all five reels, it can also generate it’s own win if landed on a pay line enough times from left to right, five Wilds on a pay line pays the top base game prize of 100x your bet.

Free Spins Bonus

There are two bonus features on The Vault slot and one follows on from the other in a rather pleasing fashion.

The first bonus you trigger, the vast majority of the time, is the Respin Bonus round. This occurs when you land two or more of the Bonus symbols anywhere across the reels on a single spin.

When you do, the remaining reels will re-spin for free and if you can land another Bonus symbol, you will get another Free Respin. If you can land five Bonus symbols doing this, or by landing five in the base game, then you will launch the Vault Bonus round

In this round, you receive 10 Free Spins with a 3x multiplier on all wins as standard, plus a couple of big benefits increasing your chances of a win.

Firstly, there are two bonus symbols on the reels. A 1x symbol increases the size of the multiplier by 1 while a 1+ symbol will add one more Free Spin to the total you have. In addition, the middle reel on the slot will be completely Wild for all your Free Spins.

Other Bonuses and Information

There are no other additional bonuses in The Vault slot but the game is really involving and the atmosphere created by the sound does draw you into the game very nicely. It is a higher variance slot, so you need to be patient and approach the game sensibly to get the best from it, but if you do, then The Vault is not a difficult game to get into.

Editor's Review

The Vault is a hugely impressive and stylish debut slot from Snowborn Studios as part of their partnership with Microgaming. The game is not all style over substance though as underneath the beautiful presentation, is a fun and enjoyable higher variance slot that will have appeal, especially to mid to lower stakes gamers. A small jackpot means those that like bigger jackpot games may be put off, but if that doesn’t worry you, this is a slot well worth getting to know a little better.
