This Week’s Top Champions and Europa League Tips
This week we have the top teams in Europe in action once again as we reach Matchday Three of the Champions and Europa League competitions. This is a pivotal time in the tournament for all teams, as they face two games in two weeks, home and away, against the same group opponents. Six points from these games can give a team a huge platform to make it into the next stage of the competition, pick up just two points or fewer and you could find yourselves struggling.
A total of nine British teams are in action this week, four in the Champions League and five in the Europa League and it is fair to say that they have a mixed bag of games in terms of difficulty. In this article, we are going to take a look at some of the best bets available across both competitions this week, starting with the games taking place tonight, Tuesday 22nd October.

Tuesday Night Tips
We have the first set of eight Champions League games taking place on Tuesday evening although I have to say this is one of the most one-sided collection of games I have seen in the tournament for a long time and it does look pretty easy to pick the winner in most games.
- Atletico Madrid v Bayer Leverkusen
- Shakhtar Donetsk v Dinamo Zagreb
- Club Brugge v PSG
- Galatasaray v Real Madrid
- Juventus v Lokomotive Moscow
- Manchester City v Atalanta
- Olympiakos v Bayern Munich
- Tottenham v Red Star Belgrade
Looking at this selection of games, the match result market doesn’t offer me that much hope of a great profit to be honest as the obvious picks in many games are heavily odds on favourites to win. As such, I think my best tip for this evening is going to be an accumulator bet.
Personally, I’d back the following:
- Atletico Madrid to beat Bayer Leverkusen – 4/6
- Shakhtar Donetsk to. beat Dinamo Zagreb – 4/6
- PSG to beat Club Brugge – 4/7
- Real Madrid to beat Galatasaray – 4/6
- Juventus to beat Lokomotiv Moscow – 2/11
- Man City to beat Atalanta – 1/5
- Bayern Munich to beat Olympiakos – 4/11
- Tottenham to beat Red Star Belgrade – 1/4
Back this Tuesday night eightfold accumulator with bet365 and you get odds of 16.58/1 on the bet. Not the largest odds for an eightfold, but one that I feel has an excellent chance of success and which for a £10 stake, would see you win over £165.
Wednesday Night Tips
Wednesday night’s selection of games in the Champions League looks to be a far more competitive selection of matches and as such, the odds on these games are much better and offer us a far greater chance of landing a better value win. Here’s Wednesday evening’s games in the Champions League:
- Ajax v Chelsea
- Red Bull Leipzig v Zenit St Petersburg
- Benfica v Lyon
- Red Bull Salzburg v Napoli
- Genk v Liverpool
- Inter Milan v Borussia Dortmund
- Lille v Valencia
- Slavia Prague v Barcelona
This is a much more difficult selection of games to pick from and as such, I would not attempt an accumulator bet on this evenings game as I feel you stand a better chance by making individual bets on each of the matches. Even so, predicting the outcome of some of these games is very tricky indeed. My tips for the action on Wednesday night would be.
- Ajax v Chelsea – Draw – 5/2
Ajax have tended to play better on the road in Europe in recent times and so have Chelsea this season. Both of these squads are young and I think are developing nicely into quality European level sides, but I think Chelsea’s extra experience in key areas could see them earn a valuable point.
- Red Bull Salzburg v Napoli – Salzburg to win and both teams to score – 11/4
Red Bull Salzburg have been scoring plenty of goals in this competition and as well as smashing six past Genk on the opening round of games, they also put three past Liverpool at Anfield. Napoli are strong defensively but don’t score many goals and I fear that could cost them here against a side that look able to score against any defence.
Thursday Night Tips
There’s a massive 24 games taking place on Thursday night in the Europa League and while I am not going to list them all here, I am going to focus on the key games for British teams, especially those that offer some good value odds on the game in question.
- FC Porto v Rangers – FC Porto to win and both teams to score – 21/10
This is a very tough task for Rangers, who were held by Hearts last weekend to lose top spot in the Scottish Premier League. FC Porto are a team with a Champions League pedigree and squad and although they have not yet performed at their best in this tournament, they should have enough to claim the win here, although I do feel Rangers can score a goal against the Porto defence.
- Partizan Belgrade v Manchester United – Draw 12/5
Manchester United face a tricky trip to Belgrade on Thursday night and without a win away from home since March, it is difficult seeing them pick up three points here in a city which has been a graveyard for a number of British teams over the years. That said, I can’t see United losing this either and as such, I think a draw will be the most likely outcome.
- Celtic v Lazio – Celtic to win – 6/4.
Lazio will make their first ever visit for a competitive game to Scotland this week to take on Celtic in what should be a cracker at Celtic Park. The visitors are not the best travellers in Europe and having already lost to Cluj on the road, I think Celtic could cause something of an upset and land the win here.
