Titans Cause Big Upset To Reach Conference Championship Game
The last sixth seed in the Playoffs to win the Superbowl were the 2010 Green Bay Packers, whose win came five years after the only other time a sixth seed in the playoffs, the Pittsburgh Steelers, landed the first ever win by a sixth seed over the Seattle Seahawks.
This year, Tennessee have already beaten the AFC South winners Houston in their final regular season game to qualify for the playoffs. They then beat the AFC East Winners New England in Boston on Wildcard Weekend and then shocked the world by defeating the AFC North winners and Superbowl favourites Baltimore Ravens this past weekend. That leaves just the AFC South winners, the Kansas City Chiefs as their only obstacle to a first ever clean sweep of AFC Divisional Winners in a four week stretch.
The Titans are one of four teams remaining still in with a chance of winning the Superbowl, but first they have to earn a chance to play in Miami in February this weekend in the AFC and NFC Conference Championship games.

NFL Divisional Weekend Roundup
- Minnesota Vikings 10 San Francisco 49ers 27
- Tennessee Titans 28 Baltimore Ravens 12
- Houston Texans 31 Kansas City Chiefs 51
- Seattle Seahawks 23 Green Bay Packers 28
Three of the four Divisional games went to form with the San Francisco 49ers making relatively comfortable progress into the NFC Championship game in their 27-10 win over the Vikings. There they will host Green Bay, with Aaron Rodgers leading the Packers to a hard fought win over the Seahawks on Sunday Night.
There was much more drama in the AFC Divisional Games with the Tennessee Titans upsetting the form book to defeat the Superbowl favourites, Baltimore Ravens, 28-12 in Baltimore. Derrick Henry’s incredible rushing performance once again the foundation for what was a superb, and deserved, Titans win. They will travel to Kansas City to face the Chiefs in the Conference Championship game as the Chiefs came back from a 24-0 deficit in the first quarter to land a sensational 51-31 win over the Houston Texans.
AFC Championship Game
Tennessee Titans @ Kansas City Chiefs (Arrowhead Stadium)
Kick off – 8.05pm Sunday (GMT)
According to the bookmakers, the Tennessee Titans don’t stand any chance against the mighty Kansas City Chiefs offense this weekend. The Titans are a -7.5 points underdog for this game with bookmakers, but that should come as welcome news to Titans fans, as that is precisely what they were when facing the Baltimore Ravens last weekend.
The Chiefs offense was spectacular against a largely ineffective Houston Texans defense last weekend and based on that alone, it is easy to see the Chiefs racking up points against a team that were not as good as the Texans in the AFC South in the regular season.
However, since the playoffs, the Titans have kicked it up a notch, defeating the current Superbowl holders and the Greatest Player of All Time, Tom Brady, in the Wildcard match up, in New England too, something that was previously unheard of. Then they took on the most explosive offense and MVP of the current season in Baltimore and Lamar Jackson and nullified him too, again on the road.
It is worth noting that teams that can run the ball against them effectively have given the Chiefs real problems over the years and no team has done that better than the Titans. In six games at Arrowhead since 2000, the Titans have won five, including a playoff win back in 2018. The Titans have also beaten the Chiefs in Nashville in November thanks to a last gasp blocked punt that was returned for a touchdown. The Titans have won all of the last four matches against the Chiefs.
With Derrick Henry in imperious form and avfter rushing for 185 yards against the Chiefs in the regular season, if Henry can do that again here, the Titans have an outstanding chance, if only because they will keep that offense on the sidelines.
Back the Titans to secure a surprise win here at 11/4 in the Money Line market at bet365.
NFC Championship Game
Green Bay Packers @ San Francisco 49ers (Levi’s Stadium)
Kick off – 11.40pm Sunday (GMT)
After beating the Seattle Seahawks at a freezing Lambeau Field, the Packers now face a trip to warmer climes to the Levi’s Stadium in California to face the San Francisco 49ers, a team that have won five of the last seven games between the two teams dating back to 2012.
Indeed, the 49ers were comprehensive winners when the two teams met at the same venue earlier on in the regular season. The Packers were held to just 8 points by the 49ers defense and the home side ran in 37 points to claim a big win and one that could have a real influence on the confidence of both these teams in this game.
The Packers had enjoyed a run of 13 wins in 14 consecutive games against the 49ers stretching from 1996 to 2010, but since then it has been the 49ers that have had the better of the two teams when they have met more recently.
Aaron Rodgers will be the key for the visitors here. The fantastic quarterback has been the mainstay of the Green Bay offense for many years and how he plays will determine their chances. The problem he has is that while Green Bay have a strong support crew, he just doesn’t have the same quality or depth of options available to him as his counterpart.
The 49ers have been hugely effective this season in all departments and I think that is the key here. Jimmy Garoppolo has been an inspired choice at quarterback and with an array of weapons on offense, plus strong defense and special teams, I just feel the 49ers are too strong all round to lose this one, especially at home.
Back the 49ers to take the win here at 2/7 on the Money Line market at bet365.
