Rabcat have produced some fantastic games for Microgaming over the years and for me Treasure Heroes is right up there with the best of them. The key to the slot is that it is not your standard game, with a 5×5 reel set and the biggest difference being the Cluster Wins method of calculating wins, which means symbols need to be joined, six together either horizontally or vertically in any position on the reels. Add to that the Moving Walls feature and you have a slot game that looks like a half slot game, half puzzle game, but which is enjoyable and addictive.  Spins start at just £0.20 per game, but you can whack that up to £40.00 per spin.  The top jackpot prize in the game on a single spin is 1,000x your bet.

Theme and Presentation

Set in a fantasy world, you join two intrepid adventurers in this top-down viewed slot game as they seek to unlock the treasure held deep within the castle. The game is typically Rabcat in terms of its presentation and by that we mean that its sound and graphics, not to mention the animations, especially on the Moving Walls feature, are all outstanding. Rabcat are earning a great reputation as a slots developer and Treasure Heroes and its unusual set up are only going to enhance that positive view still further.

There are a total of six symbols used in the base game that you would view as being the standard symbols. Each increases in value to offer better value wins and the more of a symbol you land in a cluster (starting at a minimum of six) then the greater the value of your win with that symbol.  Standard symbols are the lantern, the tree with a gem, a shield, the male treasure hero (warrior) and the female treasure hero (magician). The highest value standard symbol is the treasure chest, which offers the top prize of 1,000x your bet if you can land 25 of these symbols on the reel. Wins for each symbol range from a cluster of 6 up to the maximum of 25.

However, there are a range of bonus symbols on the reels which can help you land some better value wins.

Wild Symbol

The base game Wild symbol is coloured blue and is pretty easy to distinguish from the other symbols. It is used only as a substitute symbol in the game and does not have any special wins prescribed solely to it. The symbol can also be moved around the reels when the Moving Walls feature triggers after any win in the game.

Free Spins Bonus

There are two different Free Spins bonus features on the Treasure Heroes slot and the first of these and the one which triggers most frequently is the Moving Walls feature, which triggers whenever you land a spin that results in a win.

Once you have the payout for that win, the ‘walls’ of the slot will then move in two ways, vertically and horizontally, the effect of which is to mix up the symbols on screen, remove some from the screen and replace them with others.

For the vertical movement phase, the first and fifth reels move up or down by two spaces, with the third reel moving in the opposite direction to those reels again by two spaces.

In the horizontal movement phase, the first and fifth rows move either left or right by two spaces, with the middle row moving in the opposite direction, once again by two spaces.

Of course, mixing up the symbols in this way can trigger additional wins and of course, when those wins are triggered the Moving Walls bonus will kick in again.

If you can land the two Key Scatter Symbols on the reels together on a spin, then you will trigger the Treasure Chamber Free Spins bonus game.

During your Free Spins, there are some slight changes to the game. If you land either of the two magician or warrior symbols anywhere on the reels, they will turn into Fixed Wilds and remain in position for the remainder of the round.

In addition Fixed Wilds are not affected by the Moving Walls bonus and will remain in place for the duration of the Free Spins bonus round.

Other Bonuses and Information

There are no other bonuses in the Treasure Heroes slot but it is still a very engaging game that has a great balance. It is more a medium variance slot, with a nice mix of wins, although those bigger clusters are somewhat difficult to hit and some of the ones that have 20 or more symbols seem almost impossible to land at times. However, it is a great game to play and offers a different test to your standard slot game.

Editor's Review

Treasure Heroes takes your standard slot game and gives it a twist, in more ways than one. The Moving Walls feature is a great new addition to slot games and the Cluster Pays method of winning, while not brand new, does give the game an added dimension. Add to that other bonus features, Wilds and Free Spins and you have a game that is sure to keep you interested for the long term.
