Will Arsenal or Chelsea Lift the FA Cup This Coming Weekend?

It will be the latest date that the FA Cup Final has ever been contested, but that won’t matter to the players, directors and fans of both Arsenal and Chelsea football clubs. The two London-based giants have earned the right to battle it out for the final piece of domestic silverware available this season, the FA Cup at Wembley this weekend.

Of course, FA Cup Final Saturday is one of the longest and most deeply loved traditions of the English game and even though the tournament doesn’t hold the prestige it once did, it is still a competition fans of all teams would love to win and with Arsenal requiring a win to ensure themselves of Europa League football next season at the very least, the game will also have an added edge to it.

FA Cup Final weekend is also a busy one for bookmakers with plenty of football fans, both neutral fans and supporters of both team competing, will be looking forward to enjoy a wager or two on the game and if you are one of them and want to sign up with a site that offers exceptional football betting all season long, then the latest bet365 New Player Bonus will be right up your street.

FA Cup Final Preview

  • Arsenal v Chelsea
  • Venue – Wembley Stadium
  • Date – Saturday 1st August
  • Kick Off Time – 5.30pm
  • Referee – Anthony Taylor
  • Current Odds with bet365 – Full Time Result – Arsenal 23/10, Draw – 12/5, Chelsea 23/20.

The Road to Wembley

  • 3rd Round – v Leeds United (H) – W 1-0 (Nelson 55)
  • 4th Round – v Bournemouth (A) – W 2-1 (Saka 5, Nketiah 26)
  • 5th Round – v Portsmouth (A) – W 2-0 (Papasthatopoulos 45, Nketiah 51)
  • Quarterfinals – v Sheff Utd (A) – W 2-1 (Pepe 25 (pen), Ceballos 90)
  • Semifinal – v Manchester City (N) – W 2-0 (Aubameyang 19,71)

Arsenal’s unusually strong defensive displays have seen them concede just two goals on the road to Wembley this season, one to Bournemouth, the other to Sheffield Wednesday. They have scored two goals (nine in total) in all their FA Cup games this season, bar their Third Round tie with Leeds and their 2-0 win over Manchester City in the semifinal at Wembley was undoubtedly their best performance on the way to the final.

  • 3rd Round – v Nottingham Forest (H) – W 2-0 (Hudson Odoi 6, Barkley 33)
  • 4th Round – v Hull City (A) – W 2-1 (Batshuayi 6, Tomori 64)
  • 5th Round – v Liverpool (H) – W 2-0 (William 13, Barkley 64)
  • Quarterfinals – v Leicester (A) – W 1-0 (Barkley 63)
  • Semifinal – v Manchester United (N) – W 3-1 (Giroud 45, Mount 46, Maguire OG 74)

There’s no doubt Chelsea have earned their way to Wembley beating the teams that have finished 1st, 4th and 5th in the Premier League as well as two Championship teams. Chelsea’s goals for and against record is very similar to Arsenal’s with 10 goals scored and just two conceded.

Recent Matches Between the Teams

  • 21st January 2020 – Chelsea 2-2 Arsenal (Premier League)
  • 29th December 2019 – Arsenal 1-2 Chelsea (Premier League)
  • 29th May 2019 – Chelsea 4-1 Arsenal (Europa League Final)
  • 19th January 2019 – Arsenal 2-0 Chelsea (Premier League)
  • 18th August 2018 – Chelsea 3-2 Arsenal (Premier League)

Arsenal have won just one of the last five matches between the teams, drawing one and Chelsea winning three of those games. Chelsea won at Arsenal in December but were held at home by the Gunners a month later in what were two fiercely contested and even games.

Previous FA Cup Finals Between the Teams

  • 27th May 2017 – Arsenal 2-1 Chelsea
  • 4th May 2002 – Arsenal 2-0 Chelsea

In addition to these games they have also met in the Football League Cup final in 2007 and the Europa League Final in 2018 and Chelsea were the winners in both those games. Arsenal hold the record with 13 FA Cup Final wins in their history from 20 final appearances. They can increase that to 14 with a win over Chelsea. Chelsea have eight wins from 13 finals appearances and can increase that to nine with a win on Saturday.

Probable Teams

Arsenal – 3-4-3 – Martinez, Bellerin, Tierney, Mustafi, Luiz, Holding, Xhaka, Ceballos, Saka, Aubameyang, Lacazette

Chelsea – 5-3-2 – Caballero, Azpilicueta, Alonso, Rudiger, Zouma, Mount, Jorginho, Kovacic, Giroud, Willan, Pulisic

Our Tips for the Game

Apart from the Europa League Final, which saw Chelsea come away as the clear winners, the games between these two teams of late have been very closely fought and I can’t see this being a game that is a runaway win for either team.

Chelsea have blown hot and cold of late, but in truth so have Arsenal, but I feel both teams, with this being their most realistic chance of silverware this season, will be desperate to land the win and should bring their ‘A’ game.

It is here that I do worry a little for Arsenal as I am not convinced by that back line, despite a superb display against Manchester City in the semifinal. The Gunners have beaten Liverpool and Man City of late, which will give them confidence here, but I think Chelsea’s extra quality in defence and also midfield may be the deciding factor.

This will be close but I’d take Chelsea to win at 23/20, a 2-1 correct score bet (at 8/1) and Olivier Giroud to score at any time (7/4).
