Wu Long Slot Review

Wu Long is another in a seemingly endless line of oriental themed slots and this one very definitely seems to celebrate Chinese New Year, given the wide array of celebratory symbols used on the reels. Props must be given to Playtech for creating a genuinely innovative slot on a theme which, if we are honest, has been done to death on slot games over the past few years.

The game itself features the usual 5×3 reel layout and there are a total of 25 selectable paylines in operation on the slot. The lower value symbols are the typical playing card lows (which is a tad disappointing, why not use Mah Jong symbols for example?) while the higher value symbols are an assortment of artefacts and items to do with Chinese New Year celebrations, such as cymbals, lanterns, fireworks, drums and the two highest paying symbols, the two dancing girls and the Chinese gateway.

The real difference though with the Wu Long slot comes when you see how the game deals with the Wild symbol and also the Scatter symbol. In most slots, these are two separate symbols however, in the Wu Long slot, there is a different approach with the Dragon Head Wild, also acting as the scatter symbol which gives you access to the bonus feature in the slot, the Dragon’s Free Games bonus.

Wu Long Bonus Features

The key bonus features in the Wu Long slot come, as we have stated, from the Dragon’s Head scatter. This symbol not only serves as the scatter, but also as the in game Wild, substituting for other low and high value symbols to create winning paylines.

However, when you land three, four or five of these across the reels on a spin, then you can trigger, 12 free games as a bonus and in addition, you also receive the highest payline win possible using the symbols as a Wild. That’s a double incentive to land the bonus.

Once you get into the Free Spins then other bonuses become active. You start free spins with a Multipler of x1, but for every Dragons Scatter symbol you land in free spins, you can increase the size of the multiplier to x2, x4 and onto x6. Furthermore, if you land two or more Dragon scatters during free spins on any single spin, you can win an additional 2 to 12 free spins. This is an exciting way to keep players interested during free spins and offers players a great opportunity to land some big money prizes, if they can hit more scatters during the bonus round.

With a jackpot of 2,500 coins to be won and the chance to play from £0.25 per spin to £2,500 per spin, that could amount to a serious amount of money.

Editor's Review

With Wu Long being a more medium to higher volatility game, this is more a game for players who prefer larger, but less frequent wins on their slots. The theme is based on Chinese New Year celebrations and is beautifully recreated both through audio and on the reels itself. With a wide betting range for players, it is a game that all players can play, but it is certainly a slot that rewards perseverance given that the best rewards tend to come when you can trigger the key bonus features.
